Christmas and forts

Merry Christmas everyone! Thank you all for all of your gifts and well wishes! I appreciate and love you all! I hope that you had a merry Christmas, it was good out here in Omaha! We went caroling as a Zone on Christmas Eve, and we were able to see so many cool miracles being guided by the spirit to those who needed some Christmas cheer! It snowed just in time too! We had a nice and chilly white Christmas this year! It was also good to get to talk to the family! I wish I could have talked with you all! I love the Christmas season, it gives us a great opportunity to remember the greatest gift of all, our Savior. I enjoyed being able to remember Him, and why we celebrate Christmas, and reflect upon all of the gifts that I have received because of Him. I am so grateful for His sacrifice, for His life, and for His resurrection. I think that the greatest gift that any of us could give Him is our gratitude. He gave so freely for us and asked for nothing in return. By reading our scriptures and praying, repenting daily, and partaking of the sacrament, we show our gratitude for the greatest gift ever given. I would invite each of you as the new year approaches to set goals and plans on how you will show your gratitude to the Savior. Because I know that as you set your goals with faith, that you will recieve strength to grow and change this coming year. I promise you that a new sense of peace and joy will enter into your life as you repent and sincerely change everyday. Life is a constant process of becoming one with our Father, and the only way we can accomplish that vision is through the Savior. Again, thank you all for your prayers, support, and gifts. I love you and wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Love,

flat tires and Fontenelle

Hello! Holy cow, my first week in Fontenelle ward was so crazy. Things are a lot different here compared to North Platte! I went from corn fields to sky scrapers. The work here is progressing so much though, and i am loving both of my companions. Trios are definitely the way to go. Our area is crazy, lots of using the freeways to get around, and lots of people to talk to. We had a couple kids this week come up to us and yell at us, and then were throwing little rocks at us. They didn't hit us lol, but it was so funny. Also, it seems like everyone here has a giant pitbull haha. Overall, I am having a ton of fun, the ward is awesome, most of the people here are from Pocatello going to dental school! Is always nice to see Idahomies. So on the way from North Platte to Omaha, I was riding in the transfer van with about 6 other missionaries, and Elder Brinkerhoff was driving. Somehow, the fender on the trailer fell off, and wrapped itself in the wheels, and popped one of our tires. So we had to pull over. So Elder Burbank, Brinkerhoff, and myself jumped out to fix it on the side of the freeway. Well we got it unstuck, but we had to drop the trailer. So I ended up getting all of my luggage and study material the next day! It was crazy haha! We have 7 Elders in our ward, 4 of them are Karen speaking Elders from Burma. They are a hoot, i love them. Fontenelle is definitely one of my favorite areas so far! Its always something new everyday! Anyhow I am doing well, and I am excited for Christmas to come this week! We have Zone Conference on Wednesday! We are all hyped for it! Anyhow, I wish you all a merry Christmas

moving to Omaha

So calls came in from President Gardner last night...I am being transferred back to Omaha, to the Fontenelle ward! I am really excited to go back to Omaha for Christmas though! However, I am really sad to be leaving North Platte, I am truly going to miss this area and all of the amazing members and investigators. But I am looking forward to seeing what the Lord has in store for me in Omaha! This week was relatively mellow, we had some great lessons with our progressing investigator families! They are all doing so well, and really soaking up the gospel. We got to go on Exchanges with the Lexington Spanish Elders this week, and it was so much fun, we froze our butts off, and Satan tested our patience, but overall, we were still able to do good things and find people to teach. The ward party this week was so much fun! We dressed up as ancient missionaries. It was great to have the members fellowship our investigators, and develop friendships! We also went caroling with the ward to light the world this week, it was an amazing opportunity to feel the spirit, and to touch others lives, it was definitely something that I won't soon forget. Anyhow, this week seemed to just fly by, I cant believe it! I am so grateful for every day that I have to serve my Heavenly Father, and to bring His message to my brothers and sisters. There is no greater work we can do than that of our Heavenly Fathers. Look for opportunities so share everywhere you go, especially this time of year when the spirit of Christ is so prevalent. Thank you so much for all of your love and support, I hope you have a good week, more to come next week im sure! I love you!

reunited

Hello Everyone, this week was a good week, its starting to get cold here again! It's been really nice lately! Monday was good, we had the Mccook Elders and the Sutherland Elders down to play disc golf. We had a blast! Tuesday we had exchanges with the Grand  Island Spanish Elders went with Elder Haight who is from southern California! We had a blast, he is definitely one of my favorite missionaries. We were able to talk to some pretty interesting people, but find some really great people to teach as well. Wednesday for us was another normal day of missionary work! And then Thursday we took off to Omaha to go to MLC, so we drove to Grand Island to stop and do a baptism interview for the Elders there, and then we took off again! Once we got to the Assistants apartment, we stayed the night with Elder Buxton and Osborn as well as Elder Brinkerhoff and Elder Burbank. Then Friday was MLC, and it was fantastic, President gave an amazing training on real intent behind taking the sacrament, as well as our missionary work. It was really awesome! The rest of Friday was spent driving home just in time to help some of our investigators move into their new apartment, which happens to be the same complex we live at! They are an amazing family, they came to church this Sunday, and had a great time. It was awesome to see the spirit work on them as we were asking them inspired questions, Mel opened up a lot with her concerns, and we were able to help her answer her questions! it was really cool! Sunday was awesome, we had quite a few of our investigators at church! It was a really great meeting! We are looking forward to working with all of them the next few weeks. Other adventures of this week included Elder Towne cleaning up my hair and cutting my neck with the clippers, and also having a nerf war with a member family after a dinner appointment. it was an overall great week! I am so thankful to be in Heavenly Fathers service, especially around this Christmas season. Have a great week, talk  to you again soon. love ya!

turkeyday

Hello! This week was such an amazing week here in good ol  Braska. We had thanksgiving this week, and it was a fun filled day for sure! Elder Towne and I woke up early on Thursday morning, and cooked a turkey for our district pot luck. And surprisingly it turned out pretty good haha! Until we got to district meeting and i made the decision to put it on warm in the oven....it turned to turkey jerky before we got to enjoy it lol. All  the Elders still ate it though!! After district meeting, we went out to the Adams family's house for another dinner, it was awesome, we ate a ton of good food, and then got to go out and feed and play with the cows! It was a good time, the Nebraska plains are so pretty, i love them! Following that dinner, we went and did service with the other North Platte Elders helping a lady in our ward move some stuff from a storage shed. And then....we ate another Thanksgiving meal at the Thornes house with one of our investigators! They are the most awesome family ever. We had a great meal, and then afterwards had a great lesson with our investigator! And then we set up their Christmas tree!! Overall, it was a really fun and enjoyable Thanksgiving. The next day, Elder Towne was sick, so we spent all day in our apartment. It was good, i did a lot of cleaning haha! But we were able to get a lot of work done the rest of the week. I cant believe that its almost Christmas, it sure doesnt feel like it, especially with it being like 75 today...crazy. Anyhow, the work is alive and well in North Platte, we are teaching a lot of amazing people and families that are progressing more and more each day. I am loving my time here! This coming week will be fun, we are headed to Omaha for MLC on Thursday to Friday, so i get to see Elder Brinkerhoff again! Should be fun! Anyhow, i hope you all have a great week! I appreciate all that you do.

ponderingblessings

Hello everyone, this week was a really fast, but really good week. We had interviews with President this week, and they were amazing as always. Afterwards, we had a zone training meeting with some of the Elders and Sisters in the zone, it went really well. I gave a training that President and his wife gave the week before at zone conference...you will never know stressed until you have to give a training that your mission pres and wife gave the week before with Sister Gardner listening...it turned out pretty good haha! We had a great week seeing our inv. Charlie and Rose fed us this week, and we were able to have a lesson right after, they are awesome! We also taught Jana this week, she quit smoking! and she is progressing towards baptism here soon! Overall, we had a good week of seeing new people, and finding new investigators. I am thankful for thanksgiving, and all of the food we will get to eat! Its going to be awesome! We are building a fence and visiting inv. and members all day, so it should be a really fun day! Other than that, not too much else happened this week, Elder Towne and i are working well together, just trying to keep track of the days, because they all just kinda melt together haha! I am loving every second of my mission so far, i cant wait for the next few weeks! Anyhow, i love you all, have a happy Thanksgiving, and take time to ponder on all of the Blessings Heavenly Father has given us.

reunited

This week was a fun filled and tiring week! We started our week off by traveling up to Omaha on tuesday night to stay with the AP's for MLC the next day, I got to see Elder Kendrick, and Elder Brinkerhoff!! Wednesday morning, we had our meeting, and we were taught by Elder Natress of the 70. He is such a fun guy, and I really enjoyed his training all about love and charity. It was a ton of fun to meet him and get to talk with him. We took off from Omaha and got back to North Platte just in time to go to two appointments. That night we had the Sutherland Elders come and stay with us so that we could go to Zone conference in Grand Island the next morning! Zone Conference was so amazing, President Gardner gave an amazing training on hope and faith. And then we got to be taught by Elder Natress again!! He gave an amazing training, and had us participate in some group activities. The spirit was so strong, and I learned so much. My faith in Jesus Christ grew so much, and I am thankful for that opportunity.

This week, we will get to slow down a little bit, we have interviews tomorrow, and we are giving a zone training. Its also deer season around here, we saw a truck full of mule deer today at walmart...it was pretty great. Other than that, North Platte is awesome! I am loving every second I get to spend here!! And we are seeing some pretty awesome miracles! Charlie and Rose both attended church this week, as well as Jana and another of our investigators! They are all progressing really well, and we are having a lot of fun! Elder Towne and I  are doing well, we have a lot of fun together! I can't believe Thanksgiving is just next week! It seems like it was just yesterday I was thinking about Thanksgiving. We are having dinner with some awesome members, so I am really excited!! Anyhow, all is well! Thank you for all that you do, I love you!!

Hello from snow covered NE!!! this week was full of awesome lessons, miracles, and a great stake conference!

This week was a ton of fun, we got our miles reset for the month finally, and it was just in time, it started to snow a little, and its getting pretty cold! Transfers happened this week too, so we drove down to Grand Island to transfer point to help the new missionaries. Which there wasnt a lot, because basically the whole zone stayed the same. Except for Elder Eva who is brand new who is here in North Platte with Elder Adams. He is a great kid, and he loves to hunt so i dig him haha!

This week Charlie and Rose have been on fire, we have met with them every night at 8 o clock, they both are living the word of wisdom, and already have such a strong testimony of the Book of Mormon. Charlie reads each pamphlet 3 times before we come back, as well as the gospel principles book! And Rose made it out to stake conference as well!! She is awesome!! We also had a great meeting with our investigator Joe, he is reading a lot, and told us that he believes the Book of Mormon is true! We are really excited to continue to teach him!

We saw a lot of little miracles this week, but my favorite was when we were knocking some doors in a trailer park, and we came across this trailer, and as we knocked, a young man answered with his two boys. Elder Towne  began to talk about the restoration, and the guy was like "what reallly??"..."That sounds interesting, im listening" We were able to teach him and get a time to come back and teach his whole family! It was a small miracle, but truly a breath of fresh air! I was so happy. We also had a really powerful lesson with a part member family that we work with. The spirit felt like it was almost tangible. It was one of the coolest experiences of my mission.

Anyhow, all is going well, we have a really busy week this week with a ton of driving. we get to stay the night with my best bud Elder Brinkerhoff, who is now an AP! Im super excited!! Anyhow have a great week! I am grateful for all of the support and prayers!!

North Platte round 4

Well as far as transfers go, I am staying in North Platte for another transfer with Elder Towne!! We are pretty excited to keep the zone family together!

This week was really good, we did a LOT of walking, but it totally paid off! The Lord blessed us with so many opportunities to talk with people! We have also seen a lot of progress with a lot of our investigators! We had a trunk or treat with our ward this week, and we had a bunch of our investigators come! Us and the other Elders made home made root beer, and passed out candy! it was a ton of fun! We also had an exchange with the Mccook Elders, it was last minute, but it was really awesome! I went with Elder Trotter who has been out for 6 weeks now. He is an awesome missionary, and we had a lot of fun talking to people, and seeing a lot of miracles! Overall it was a good week, it has been getting more and more cold here! its only a matter of time before the snow comes im afraid.

This coming transfer is going to be awesome! Elder Hallstrom of the Presidency of the Quorum of the 70 is visiting us this transfer and doing a mission tour. We get to be with him twice!! Once for our mission leadership council and then for the actual Zone conference! I am really excited! There is also a lot of changes happening in our mission to help us be better missionaries, and I am really excited for that! Over all I am loving my mission more than anything! I cannot wait for the next few transfers! They are going to be so awesome! Anyhow, Thank you to everyone for all that you do! I love you!

Cowboyatheart

This week was awesome! We got to do a lot of driving! First to a zone conference in Kearney. It was so awesome, I learned so much from President Gardener! Especially about Preach My Gospel! It is such an inspired book, not only for missionaries, but for everyone! We then drove to Omaha for MLC this week too, and it was another amazing meeting! I learned a lot about how to solve problems, and the importance of always teaching the Basics.

The rest of the week was good, I convinced Elder Towne that he was color blind for half of the day, long story, nevertheless, hilarious. We are doing so well together, and we are getting a lot of good work done! Lizz came to church this week, and we are really excited! She is such a good example of how the gospel can change our lives. Overall good week, not too much else happened, just lots of hard work and lots of cool miracles!! Hope everyone has a good week! Transfers are next week, so I am hoping to stay for another one!! Anyhow, until then!

Excerpt from his email to mom :)

**The Book of Mormon is changing my life everyday. I think of a quote that brings me a lot of peace. "Come as you are, but don't plan on staying the same." All that our Heavenly Father asks of us is that we come to him as we are, and that we continually change our hearts. He accepts us as we come, and then he helps us change for the better. No matter where we are at in life or what we have done or experienced, the invitation is the same. "Come unto me." I can testify that as we come to the Savior our hearts will change, and we will experience joy that we never have before! I love this gospel, and I know that it is true. The Book of Mormon is scripture, it is our Liahona here on the earth. It dispels even the blackest of nights with its bright shining rays of divine guidance. I love it and I know that it is true. The blessings extend far beyond just our own lives!

baptismsandfall

This week was one of the most amazing weeks of my mission. Paul was baptized this week! It was such a spiritual experience, and I was so happy to be able to baptize him! The service turned out really good too! Paul is such an inspiration to me, he finished the Book of Mormon cover to cover in 6 weeks before he was baptized. He told us he was looking forward to starting again! He is awesome, and we are really excited for him!  That was definitely the highlight of the week! The rest of the week was great too! We got to go up to Omaha to do an exchange with the assistants! I went with Elder Burbank, who actually came out with me! We had a great time, and got to teach a lot of cool people! We hurried back home so that we could do another exchange with the Lexington Spanish elders. I got to go with Elder Guerts, who has been out about 3 weeks now! He is an awesome elder, we got to teach some great people, and had a blast together! I'm still working on my Spanish lol. The weather is getting cold, and the leaves are changing, Nebraska in the fall is my favorite time of year! its so awesome. Anyhow, we are keeping busy out here and Elder Towne and I are having a blast! We are looking forward to another busy week! Thank you for all of your love and support!

coldweather

This week was a week of bipolar weather haha! one day it was nice and sunny, and today we have tried to stay in as much as possible. But hey I'm in Nebraska, so can't I complain too much! This week was good, we traveled down to Grand Island to go to a district meeting, which is a two hour drive, and it was an awesome meeting! After the meeting I got to go on exchanges with Elder Hoxer, he is so awesome! We had a great exchange and saw a lot of cool things happen. He is a great Elder! Its weird going out with Elders who are the same age as my little brother haha! We had a great week this week, it flew by so fast! We have been able to teach some pretty amazing people! we had a few people attend church with us this week, including a part member family we are working with, one of the kids who is an investigator actually bore his testimony. It was really powerful. They are so awesome and we are excited to continue to work with them. Paul is set to be baptized this Saturday, before he left he had finished up to 4th Nephi, so we will see him this Thursday for his interview! Its going to be so awesome! Elder Towne and I are doing great together! Seeing lots of miracles and having a ton of fun! The Lord blesses us everyday with miracles. He is truly leading this great work. Busy week this week, with trips to Omaha, and more exchanges! Hopefully more to come next week! Thank you for all that you do! I love you!

I love conference

This week was so amazing! it went way to fast though! We had exchanges this week with the North Platte 1st Elders, Elder Adams and I had a blast teaching our investigators and finding new individuals. One lady who we saw sitting on a chair in her front yard told us as we approached her that she had just told Heavenly Father that she was having a hard time picking up all of the acorns in her front yard. And then almost right after we happened to show up! it was truly a blessing of the Lord putting us in the right place at the right time. We were able to help her pick them up and then teach her the message of the restoration. She is such a sweet lady. She saw us this morning while she was driving and waved to us! it made my day haha! Speaking of crazy stuff, we had a guy stop us and tell us to preach to him. It was sweet! We are meeting so many cool people, and the Lord is truly blessing us. General conference was so awesome! SO many good talks. I cant even narrow it down to one that i liked! I loved Elder Bednars talk. So good. I cannot wait to study it some more! I felt so uplifted after conference. In fact when we were driving between sessions, i told Elder Towne "man its conference and these people have no idea" so we went around just inviting everyone to come and hear the prophets voice. It was so much fun! I loved the emphasis on the family, charity, and the Book of Mormon. All of my questions were answered. I know and can testify that we truly do have Prophets of God on earth today. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. And i know that because of Jesus Christ, we can be lifted from the lowest of lows. We just have to turn outward. It was also wonderful to hear so many quotations of the Living Christ and the Family Proclamation! Those documents are so inspired, and i would invite everyone to read them every single day! I love them! I love my mission so much. I was thinking the other day about how much my mission has changed my life. I have felt more joy than i ever have in my entire life. I know its because i am sharing the gospel. I have a testimony that through Jesus Christ we can become better than we ever thought we could be. Overall i am just thankful for this gospel, and the miracle of repentance, that enables us to grow and change every day. i cant wait for this coming week, its going to be so much fun! Paul is now in 3rd Nephi 6 as of today, and is hoping to finish by his baptism on the 14th! Anyhow, i hope you all have a good week! i love you and am thankful for you! See ya again soon!

chocolate crickets

Hello from freezing cold Nebraska. This week has been rainy and chilly. I even busted out my sweater this week. Crazy stuff. And even though the weather is cold, the work is heating up! So things with Paul have been crazy, he has been faithfully living the Word of Wisdom, and coming to church. But due to general conference and his work schedule, we are expecting his baptism to be on the 14th of October. He is so awesome, he told us he is up to Alma 50 a couple days ago, Paul devotes at least one hour a day to reading the Book of Mormon. It is so cool to see how it has completely changed his life. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. Our investigator Penny is doing really well too, she told us she is thinking about being baptized, so that is a lot of progress. She is the sweetest lady ever. We also have a couple other sweet people we are working with, and we are excited to continue teaching them. Elder Towne and I are doing really well together, we are working hard, and not taking no for an answer! We are finding some really solid people, and we are looking forward to this coming week. Cool miracle happened last night! We were just at the end of our evening, and I felt like we needed to stop at the house right next to our car, so we knocked at the door, and the sweetest old lady answered, and invited us in with her husband. We went in and sat down with them and started to talk with them, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw one of our new pass a long cards sitting on their shelf. So I asked her when she got that, and she told us a few months ago, and then Elder Towne invited them to watch the "Prince of Peace" video that is on the back. As they did, the spirit was so strong. We were able to bear our testimonies of Jesus Christ and his atonement. We talked about prophets and the restoration. And the old woman, whose name is Doris, had tears in her eyes. It was so powerful. We invited them to read and pray about the Book of Mormon. And we are going to go back and see them! But the coolest part, I felt like I had met her somewhere before, and I wasn't sure where, she looked at me and told me that she felt the same way. And she couldn't decide where. I know that Heavenly Father prepares specific people for us to teach, we just have to be willing to listen and follow promptings from the Holy Ghost.

Also this week, some members bought us some chocolate covered crickets....So I totally ate one and almost threw up...It was an experience none the less haha! Anyhow, the work is going great, I am excited for this upcoming transfer, we are going to do a lot of big things as a zone! Keep up the good work, I love you all and am so grateful for you! Have a good week!

A thought from this week: Time is the most precious gift we have been given. We cannot take it back. We cannot replace it. And we never know how much we have. The best gift we can give our brothers and sisters is our time.

sametownnewtowne

This week was legendary. One of the busiest weeks I have had on my mission. We did a back to back exchange this week, with the North Platte 1st Elders, and the Lexington Spanish Elders. It was so much fun, I got to go with Elder Jeffers on Tuesday, and we had a blast, and saw some amazing miracles with finding new investigators and teaching a lot of people. One of our investigators sent us off with a tin full of cookies, and as we were walking, we came across a young couple who just lost their home and jobs, and are living out of their car. It was an amazing experience as we taught them, the spirit was so strong, we also got to share our cookies with them! Very sweet couple! Anyhow, the rest of the day was equally as awesome! Then on wednesday, the Lexington Elders came up, and I got to go on an exchange with Elder Rubio. He is probably the funniest Elder I have ever met. We had a ton of fun, and we got to find and teach some really amazing people. After studies the next day, Elder Roos and I packed up and took off to Omaha, where we stayed the night and then had MLC the next morning which was so awesome! President Gardner taught us some amazing things about the doctrine of the Godhead, and Sister Gardners training on Parents was amazing as well! I also got to see Elder Brinkerhoff, and my boy Elder Buxton! Also crazy news!! i found out that i am a GRANDPA!!! Elder stokes is training a new missionary! So that is so cool! Speaking of transfers, i found out this morning that Elder Roos is leaving me, and I am getting Elder Towne! Kinda crazy, but its going to be fun none the less! We had a good week seeing investigators, and Paul came to church again this week, we are hoping to baptize him right after conference!! We also found one of the most amazing and prepared families last night. We have been praying to find a family, and we did! We started teaching a lady on her porch and she explained how she was just so confused about all these different churches and how she wished she could just find the truth. We were able to go inside and teach her husband and daughters. And it was such an amazing spirit filled lesson! They excitedly accepted the invitation to read and pray saying that they would start that night! We are going back to teach them again on Friday! Overall, such an amazing spirit filled week, lots of exciting changes and opportunities to teach the gospel!! Im looking forward to another transfer out here! Anyhow, thank you for everything. I love you all! Keep smiling and have a great week!

Poetry

Hello everyone! This week was so awesome! We got a chance to work with a lot of our investigators, and we were blessed enough to have 3 of our investigators come to church. Paul is doing really good, he is set for baptism on the 23rd, and has read up to Mosiah 20 in the Book of Mormon. He is an amazing example how the Book of Mormon can influence our lives. He has completely changed and has grown closer to Jesus Christ. He is awesome, we went on exchanges with the Grand Island Spanish Elders, I went with Elder Hoogendoorn, he is from Yuma, Arizona. We had a good time, and we were able to teach some really awesome people! It was a great exchange, he is a good Elder.

We have been finding a lot this week, and we have been led to so many amazing individuals and families, and we are truly seeing so many miracles daily. I am  truly blessed to be serving in this ward, the members are helping us so much in teaching our investigators! It has been amazing. Elder Roos and I are doing good! We are getting along great, he is teaching me so much! I love him! We are working really hard, and having a ton of fun! we are going disc golfing all day today! it is going to be so sweet! Anyhow, NP is the place to be! We drive to Omaha this week for MLC! so I get to see all the homies again! I am loving my mission so much! Thank you for all that you do, have a good week!

"Eternal Friend"
In your palms I see sacrifice,
I see heavens light shining in your eyes,
In the depths of your humility, I find my eternity.
Your walls of mercy stretch before me without end,
You are my life, my savior, my eternal friend.
